Synopsis:

A writer draws inspiration for his erotic stories from vivid bondage scenes performed right in front of his writing desk. Still, he prefers to novelize his fascination rather than participate actively. As a consequence, the already ambivalent relation with his wife turns into an intriguing reflection of himself. HIROKI's growth as a director is evident when he subordinates apparent obscenities to mildly humorous romance, employing his background as a pinku director to create a highly dramatic effect.

Review:

Hiroki's excellent film (adapted from a novel by SM connoisseur Oniroku Dan) starts out as sex farce but turns into a strange and quite provocative vision of what sexual empowerment might really mean. Kurosaki (Kitano movie regular Osugi) is a failed novelist who has turned to writing SM porn to earn a buck. Lacking expertise and inspiration, he has his assistant Kawada (Murakami) hire models to strike bondage poses and describe their feelings. But his wife (Hoshi) isn't that keen on finding nubile young things tied up in the living room. She responds by flirting with her athletic English teacher - and then by having a sexually adventurous affair with Kawada, which effectively ends the marriage. Kurosaki recalls these events in retrospect, but shows no sign of having gained real self-knowledge and never addresses one central question: can sex really be a dictation sport?

This is a Taiwan production and presents sleazy Cat III scuzz of the first magnitude. It does get a bit difficult to focus on the intertwining plots when another of the numerous sex scenes is joined in progress. Just an incredible amount of female nudity and simulated satisfying featuring a rather large cast of attractive starlets. The male lead is the ever dependable Stuart Ong and good old Chalie Cho is around long enough to have some seriously good times beating around the bush. The many ladies that abound include Tsui Man-Wah and Goo Git (Unforgetful Holiday).
