Description:
Welcome to Naked News the program with NOTHING to hide I_m Victoria Sinclair. And I_m Erica Stevens we_ve been working literally around the clock to bring you all the latest from the election front.
First and foremost Erica US President Barack Obama has won a second term in office. The President won support in several key states including Ohio and Virginia to clinch 303 electoral votes n far more than the 270 needed to win.Obama won the popular vote as well with 50 percent versus 48 percent for Mitt Romney. In
his victory speech Obama thanked
his supporters and promised that better times are on the horizon.Erica Obama_s rousing speech capped off an historic election and sparked a night of celebration for Democrats nationwide. But the mood was decidedly different for Republican supporters in Boston Vic.That_s right n Mitt Romney conceded the election shortly after midnight. And when
he finally took the stage
he was every bit the professional. Katherine Curtis was covering the Republican rally and joins us now with a little more on Romney_s concession speech. No question ladies Romney looked visibly dejected after the loss and who wouldn_t be? But in a gracious speech Romney congratulated Obama on a tight race and wished
him success on the road ahead.Romney had kind words for the President saying quote I trust that
his intellect and
his hard work and
his commitment to principle will continue to contribute to the good of our nation. Let_s hope
his concillatory tone will
help bring what_s obviously a very divided country together. Back to you ladies. Thanks Kat. Mr. Romney had a great run nice to see a classy end to
his campaign. In other election results the Democrats will retain control of the Senate while the Republicans will hold on to the House of Representatives. And comments made on the campaign trail came back to haunt a couple of Senate candidates. With
her analysis of the situation here_s Eila Adams.Ladies while this essentially remains unchanged not everyone is thrilled. Republican control of the House led many to believe that the government will remain gridlocked. Over in the Senate two controversial Republican candidates lost their races. Missouri_s Todd Akin and Indiana_s Richard Mourdock made headlines for comments that many felt were insensitive toward
women. In Wisconsin Democrat Tammy Baldwin won
her race becoming the
first openly
gay US Senator. Ladies? Thanks Eila. We wish Ms. Baldwin
best of luck. And now that Obama has cemented
his second term in office there are questions as to what this means not just for America but for the rest of the world.VS) In particular Erica the Middle East n a region that_s caused headaches for every administration. Once again here_s Kat Curtis with more.In
his speech ladies Obama said a decade of war was
coming to an end n and hopefully that_s the case. But there are two counties that remain a concern.
First there_s Syria. That conflict shows no signs of ending. Many analysts are expecting Obama to beef up Americais support of the rebel fighters there. And then there_s Iran. If it continues its nuclear program we could see a US attack on Iranian facilities or potential support of an Israeli decision to go to war. Hopefully it doesn_t come to that. Back to you. Thanks Kat. Closer to home Obama_s going to have some serious issues to tackle specifically on the economic front. In particular the deficit and taxes will be testing the President_s popularity. Once again here_s Eila Adams with a closer
look at these hurdles.Ladies the most pressing issue comes as a result of the 2011 Deficit Control Act. Thatis going to result in 100-billion dollars in
pretty significant budget cuts that_ll be
hard for many people to
swallow. Combine that with tax increases that will impact many wealthy Americans. In particular the Bush-era tax cuts will be expiring and thanks to the Affordable Care Act the wealthy will be on the hook for an additional 20-billion dollar tax increase. Needless to say he_s still got a long road ahead. THat_s it from here ladies -- back to you. Thanks Eila. Needless to say Vic an exciting night. We_ll be absorbing this for days to come. Defiintely. There_s still much to talk about including what_s next for the Republican party how the House of Representatives will deal with Obama this time around and the looming fiscal cliff. We_ll be back to sound off on some of these issues an more in today_s wrap-up so stay tuned for that. The rest of the days_s headlines -- including sports -- are up ahead so don_t go away.
