The death toll has now risen to at least 56 people - 28 in New York City alone - with many people still listed as missing. New York mayor Michael Bloomberg didn_t mince words saying
he expects the number to go up. But the city is beginning to recover. Portions of the subway system are operating again. However due to the effect of the salt water in the system it_s uncertain when full functionality will be restored. For now the Metropolitan Transit Authority is waiving fares.Meanwhile US President Barack Obama is going back on the campaign trail after taking a few days off to deal with Sandy. On Wednesday
he toured the devastation in New Jersey with state governor Chris Christie. With more on that here_s EA.Thanks Vic. Obama promised New Jersey residents that
he wouldn_t let bureaucracy get in the way of recovery and pledged quote We are here for you. The president is now set to hit Wisconsin Nevada and Colorado for rallies.
His itinerary is going to be booked solid in the following days as
he attempts to make up for lost campaign time. However some analysts say Obama_s handling of the Sandy crisis Vic will do more for

show that Mitt Romney is inching closer to Barack Obama in a number of states. Earlier this month Obama had a 6-point lead in Wisconsin. Well that_s been whittled down to just 3 points. In New Hampshire Romney is now just 2 points behind Obama. The gap was 7 in September. One state where it
looks like Obama CAN breathe easy Vic is Iowa where
he leads by a comfortable 6 point margin. Sounds like it_s going right down to the wire. Should be a very exciting couple of days ahead Thanks Kat.
