Cedar Bayou Texas has recorded an incredible 51-POINT-8-8 INCHES of rain due to Hurricane Harvey That_s not just a record for Texas but for the entire continental U.S. And if you haven_t done the math that_s OVER FOUR FEET As the National Weather Service pointed out in a tweet so much rain has fallen they actually had to change their color charts just to properly indicate it Wherever there_s people in trouble there_ll be people trying to take advantage The Texas attorney general_s office has reportedly received hundreds of complaints about price gouging Stories include a store charging a HUNDRED DOLLARS for a case of water and some gas stations charging as much as TEN DOLLARS per gallon Of course under Texas law price gougers can face twenty thousand dollar fines which can rise to a QUARTER OF A MILLION if the victim_s a senior citizen And a sociology professor from the University of Tampa has been FIRED after blaming the GOP for the disaster. He tweeted I don_t believe in instant karma but this kinda feels like it for Texas. Hopefully this will help them realize the GOP doesn_t care about them. Meanwhile Ann Coulter tweeted I don_t believe Hurricane Harvey is God_s punishment for Houston electing a lesbian mayor. But that is more credible than climate change. It_s a BIG vote of confidence for the country_s economic future And in a slightly related story it took nearly nine years but victims of Bernie Madoff_s ponzi scheme are FINALLY getting paid Madoff_s infamous fraud was uncovered in late 2008. And that_s because the financial crisis caused people to panic and try to withdraw their investments Madoff_s scam affected more than 35-thousand people to the tune of 6.5 billion in losses. 4 billion dollars has been recovered and will start being paid out later this year. As for Madoff? He_s serving a 150-year prison term If there_s ONE word that comes to mind when we think of France it_s... macho? Nevertheless French President Emmanuel Macron wants to crack down on the country_s macho culture and keep men from harassing women His government is setting up a new committee that will impose fines on street harassment like asking for a woman_s number. It seems China is following through on its plan to get rid of all its Bitcoin exchanges. Which naturally involves the daughter of a Russian billionaire. PP) Like they say you_ve got to spend money to make money RW) Advice they_ve obviously taken to heart Here_s the story. 1. RW) Check out the new digs of 22 year old Ekaterina Rybolovleva (REEB-oh-LOHV-ee-ev) The daughter of a former Russian fertilizer magnate just bought this swanky condo overlooking New York_s Central Park. The price? A ridiculous 88 million dollars Even for a city like New York where real estate is insanely expensive that_s a record for a single transactionPP) The 67-hundred square foot palace has ten rooms seven walk-in closets a library and a wraparound terrace. Ekaterina spends her time between Monaco Switzerland and now New York where she_ll be going to school. Not too bad for a quaint little home away from home. I bet all the kids will want to come over for study dates.2. RW) If I had that kind of money studying wouldn_t be much of a priority But that_s just me. Next up some people remodel their homes but others like Tiger Woods_ ex-wife Elin Nordegren (EE-linn NOR-de-grin) go a few steps further. She recently bought an immaculate 12-million dollar mansion in North Palm Beach Florida but instead of renovating it she bulldozed the entire thing to the ground. PP) Why? Because with her divorce settlement reportedly in excess of 100 million dollars from Tiger SHE CAN Elin apparently wants to build her dream home on the property. She_s made everyone involved sign confidentiality agreements so details are vague. We DO know that she won_t be too hard up during the construction phase. She_s staying at a mansion down the street in a ritzy private community.3. RW) Real estate isn_t a game for everyone - some people are just plain bad at it. Take for example superstar singer Beyonce. Back in 2002 - Mrs. Jay Z spent 465-thousand dollars on - a cabana in a ritzy condo complex. That_s nearly a half-million dollars on a glorified change room - a mere 190 square feet and with just a half-bath. But it gets worse for her.PP) It sure does. Beyonce wanted to unload it not counting on the fact that few people will pay half-a-mill for a CABANA. By late last year she was asking a mere 135-thousand - and she couldn_t even get THAT.
