New intel has been released regarding the specifics of the assault and Naked News anchor Marina Valmont join us to tell us what they are. Vic the US State Department says that they had no actionable intelligence to indicate that the attack in Benghazi was being planned. Initial reports had suggested that it was a spontaneous attack in response to an inflammatory US-made anti-Muslim video that appeared on YouTube. However the State Department is now calling this a carefully coordinated terrorist attack. State Department officials are scheduled to testify in front of Congress over their handling of the event. Back to you.hank you Marina. Notorious radical Islamic cleric Abu Hamza has pled not guilty to terror charges in a New York City courtroom. He_s facing 11 charges including conspiracy to set up a terrorist training camp in Oregon. He_s also accused of hostage taking and trying to incite a holy war in Afghanistan. Hamza was extradited from the UK last week along with two men accused in the 1998 embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania. Hamza appeared in court without the prosthetic hook he uses as a hand which was confiscated by US authorites. His trial will start in August 2013.There has been a surprising shift in American religious demographics. The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life is reporting that Protestants are no longer the majority in the United States. Let_s go now to Eila Adams who_s been following this story.Vic according to Pew in the past 5 years the number of Protestants in the US has declined from 53-percent to 48-percent. Further evidence of the decline in Protestants can be seen in the country_s government - there are no Protestants currently on the Supreme Court and only one of the 4 people on the Presidential tickets - President Obama - is a Protestant. It_s still the largest religious group in America followed by Catholicism. But the fastest growing group are unaffiliated. Nearly 20-percent of Americans do not identify themselves with any religious group at all. Vic these numbers are based on a telephone poll of nearly 3000 people. Back to the unaffiliated - that would include Atheists right?That_s part of it. Embattled Syrian President Bashar al Assad took to the podium Sunday night to make a rare and defiant speech in Damascus. With the country_s civil war death toll already topping 60-thousand Assad made it clear that the violence would continue as long as there was even one so-called terrorist left in Syria. Eila?EA) Kat in his first major speech in more than six months Syrian leader Bashar al Assad was greeted by cheers and applause at the Damascus Opera House. The President vowed to keep fighting Syrian rebel forces whom he referred to as murderous criminals. Assad offered up a peace plan that included a reconciliation conference new elections and a revised constitution. He spoke out against Western nations that have been supporting and funding opposition soldiers calling them Western puppets.EA) Kat Assad also cryptically added that his regime would quote negotiate with the master not with the slave. KC) It_s unfortunate Eila but this struggle is clearly nowhere near over. So how has the international community responded to the speech?EA) As you can imagine it hasn_t been very friendly. The US State Department says that Assad is detached from reality. And the European Union is sticking by its guns and claiming that Assad must step aside and allow for political transition. KC) Is there any chance this can be resolved with Assad staying in office?EA) It doesn_t look like it. The Syrian National Coalition - the group officially recognized by the US and EU - says they_ll accept nothing less than the President_s resignation. KC) And the beat goes on. Thanks very much Eila. Thanks for joining us I_m VS. Days after his shocking resignation the fallout from the affair of ex-CIA head David Petraeus continues. Late Monday FBI agents were seen carrying boxes and bags into the North Carolina house of Paula Broadwell the 40-year old biographer with whom the four-star general claims he had the affair. The scandal has raised major security concerns in Washington. According to The New York Times investigators found classified documents on Broadwell_s computer. Petraeus however denies giving her any inside access.There_s no question the impact of the Petraeus affair is being felt far and wide. The top US commander in Afghanistan is now being pulled into the investigation. General John Allen allegedly sent inappropriate emails to another woman at the heart of the scandal. Eila Adams has that part of the story. Vic General John Allen - the man in charge of US operations in Afghanistan - is being investigated for sending thousands of pages of emails to a Florida woman named Jill Kelly. Kelly a family friend of Petraeus went to the FBI early this summer after receiving a number of harrassing emails. The ensuing FBI investigation traced the emails to Paula Broadwell and ultimately exposed the Petraeus affair. It_s believed that Broadwell saw Kelly as a threat to her relationship with Petraeus although Kelly has not been romantically linked to the ex-CIA boss. The emails between Allen and Kelly are dated between 2010 and 2012. However Pentagon officials will not disclose if they were sexual in nature Vic or if they included any classified information. EIla wasn_t General Allen on the verge of being appointed NATO_s Supreme Allied Commander in Europe? And if so what happens now? Needless to say Vic that promotion_s on hold at the request of Defense Secretary Leon Panetta. But if Allen is cleared of any wrongdoing in the investigation he_s expected to assume command in early 2013. Seems like a pretty big _if_ at this point. Plenty of intrigue to this story and it only seems to get more complex every day. Thanks very much Eila. In other news the man behind one of the world_s most popular anti-virus software brands is on the run. John McAfee (MAK-uh-fee) is the main suspect in the Belize shooting death of an American expatriate named Gregory Paul. Local authorities believe that McAfee shot Paul at his home in San Pedro Town after an argument turned ugly. McAfee had been living in Belize for some time now. The software company he founded was sold to Intel for 7 billion dollars in 2010. It_s been reported that McAfee had been spending his time in Belize experimenting with drugs and toying with an ever-expanding gun collection. We_ll be right back.

Hello everyone - I_m Laura Conner WELCOME to Naked News. We_re on the eve of a mammoth presidential election in the US and both candidates are doing everything they can to get some last minute votes. Senior anchor Victoria Sinclair has been following the campaigns and she joins us now for a look at all the last minute running around. Laura with just one day to go both President Obama and Mitt Romney put on a full court press in order to gain votes in swing states. The candidates - and their spouses and running-mates - all have last minute stops in battleground states that include Ohio Iowa and Colorado. Both candidates are bringing out the star-power to try and influence voters - Obama will be appearing with Bruce Springsteen and Jay-Z in Ohio while Romney will be at an event in New Hampshire with Kid Rock.As for who will win the latest numbers suggest it is literally anybody_s guess. The most recent CNNORC International poll has Obama and Romney in a dead heat with each getting support from 49-percent of likely voters. Eila Adams has been analyzing some numbers for us. What can you tell us Eila? As you just mentioned Vic it_s a dead heat and several other recent polls are showing similar results. In most cases no candidate leads the other by more than 3 points. However respected statistician Nate Silver claims that Obama has an 82-percent chance of winning. Silver gained prominence after the 2008 election when he correctly predicted the results in 49 out of 50 states.That_s pretty impressive but I take it not everyone is trusting Silver_s predictions.Well certainly not anyone on the CONSERVATIVE side of the equation. There are a NUMBER of sites that give a huge edge to Romney.We_ll certainly find out soon enough thanks EIlaVoters in the storm-ravaged state of New York may get a little extra time to head to the polls. The Board of Elections says that if less than 25 percent of registered voters turn out to the polls they may extend the voting deadline by an extra 24-hours. Organizers will make their final decision on election day. Meanwhile New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is urging power companies to make areas with polling stations a priority when it comes to restoring electricity. This comes on the heels of an announcement in New Jersey which allows residents to email their vote in if they can_t get to a polling station. We_ll have more news shortly back to you Laura.

President Barack Obama has announced a series of 23 executive actions in an attempt to curb the wave of gun violence blanketing the US. He also called on Congress to re-instate a ban on military-style assault weapons ban magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition and to approve universal background checks on anyone purchasing a gun of any kind. Those checks would include private sales auctions and even gun shows.Even before the President_s speech gun lobbyists had been voicing their displeasure over tougher gun rules. In particular the National Rifle Association which has released a controversial commercial aimed at the Presidentis family.For his part the President did not address the attack ad. Among the executive actions announced Wednesday was the nomination for a director for the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. Obama is also directing more resources to be used for mental health issues and the causes and prevention of gun violence. Now here_s Laura Conner with what ELSE is in the news today.
