To be closer to his work Dr Sam lives in a quaint boarding house during the week where our first shoot takes place. The large gothic house is run by a zealous Christian lady who makes no secret of trying to convert the young men who lodge with her, in fact the place felt like a weird bible study house for young single men and we couldn't help imagining the predatory spinster occasionally doping the odd loner in her parlour beside the communal kitchen and white-slave trading him off to some hood. Although Sam's landlady disapproves of her boys bringing girls back to their rooms she does politely turn a blind eye when they get lucky but even so we couldn't help feeling awfully suspicious lugging camera equipment up to Sam's attic room. As we shot him slipping out of his preppy clothes and spreading naked on his furry bedspread, the the wailings from the prayer meeting in the room below us were quite unsettling.

Introducing our new model Mark in the style of one of the illicit encounters he enjoys so much and quite regularly. We were given a very specific timeslot: a maximum of two hours, presenting an extremely limiting task for a photographer wanting to create some quality content and tell a good story. Nevertheless for a first meeting we were happy to give in to this interesting man's demands. Mark is thirty and does something rather glamorous and high-powered in the city and enjoys a very settled home life he just happens to be a serial exhibitionist and risk-taker. 'Serial' seems an appropriate word to use when describing Mark, as the fictional character Patrick Bateman kept coming to mind as we chatted to him. Mark loves labels and luxury and pragmatically described what he expected to gain from his session with us, and for a man who is so careful to cover his tracks and reveal so little about his private life he was very comfortable delivering an unselfconscious solo performance. People in stressful positions often need to unwind in progressively more extreme ways and Mark is no exception: there is clearly so much more to him than meets the eye. We know he leads a mysterious and colourful life and we think that getting to know him is going to be like peeling off the layers of an exotic artichoke: slowly, one by one.

We first made contact with Henry two years before taking any pictures of him. One of his best friends is already a TFE model and recommended him to us however getting Henry to commit to even meeting-up has proved near impossible. One of Henry's more endearing qualities is his slight scattiness he often loses his phone and his pals complain that they can never get hold of him either so we didn't take it too personally. The good news is that posh boys need extra pocket money too and the sudden change of heart was definitely due to the fact he needed some urgent cash to get him out of a pickle. Lost his wallet, father in Africa: stranded. His loss is certainly our gain and we were happy to travel miles to his father's country cottage with a large wadge of cash to get things moving again. We also found that Henry had been holding back due to a few body issues of his own and when we reassured him that many readers often ask for 'less-sculpted' softer lads he was amused and bewildered. And then he peeled off.

A talent scout put us in touch with our Valentine's Day model Tobias who lives by the coast and has been working as a ship's skipper for the past few years. Toby has a personality and temperament that are as kind and sweet as his lovely face but would you believe that this adorable young man sometimes lacks the confidence to approach girls he fancies and longs to find himself a steady girlfriend?
